Well, we did it! We committed to this trip by purchasing our Airfare yesterday. So, now - it's a go! We are both very excited to have this chance to attend a traditional Indian wedding as well as tour South India to take in a diverse and new culture that has a rich history. We also talked to our preferred travel agent and it looks like we have a great tour outlined for after the wedding.
The groom is Ramiah Natarajan. I've worked with Ramiah for the past 3 years and I'm honored to be invited as a guest to his upcoming marriage. We will be arriving in Chennai, India on April 27th. Chennai is the fourth largest city in India and is located on the eastern seaboard about halfway down the coast. On April 29th, we will be traveling by train to Karaikudi - near Madurai, to meet with Ramiah's family before the wedding. Our South India tour will begin on the night of April 30th after the wedding dinner - when we will be transported to Madurai for our first stop.
The tour will last for 10 days and will end back in Chennai where we will spend our last 3 days in India being escorted to more sightseeing with Ramiah before leaving to return home on May 14th. Only 6 weeks remain before we start our journey. There is much to do!!! Mom got her passport in the mail yesterday and I am hopeful to have mine in the next few days. Next, we will need to send the passports to the Indian Embassey in Houston to obtain our Visa's to enter the country.
In the meantime, mom has purchased fabric to make some loose fitting cotton clothes that are similar to Indian fashion and we have started our "to do", "to buy" and "to pack" lists for the trip. The next 6 weeks are sure to fly by.
So, for now ... Namaste ... (which is hello or goodbye in Indian). :)
